Inspired by my uncle as well as the legendary Friday Night Dance parties on WQHT Hot 97.1 (NY) DJ Q began DJing in the mid part of the 1990’s. After purchasing his first set of turntables (a set of Gemini’s) and a mixer (also a Gemini) I began honing his skills in my bedroom. After playing local parties and finally managing to upgrade to better equipment I finally got a break when one of my mix tapes got me a call to play at a bar in NYC. I continued to work diligently, entering mix contest after mix contest and got my first real big chance when I was a runner up in a mix contest and was asked by the promoter Kenny L. to play at one of the rooms at the legendary Tunnel night club in NYC. Gigs at Speed and Aria to name a few followed. Accolades such as being one of the finalists in URB Magazines mix contest in the early 2000s as well as a favorable review [from URB Magazine] for my mix tape “Schizophrenia” followed.
In around 2001 I hooked up with the Bedroom DJ posse (in NYC) and was a regular at their Bedroom DJ nights, it was at these parties that I hooked up with DJ partner and collaborator DJ Rob Murray. Together we have recorded mix sets for Brian Owen’s Above Ground radio show (our mix at the time had the most listens for the Above Ground show) as well as throwing down at the now defunct NYC party Home Grown. Though the two of us have been busy doing solo projects recently, we are still collaborators and will be working on new projects in the future.
In 2007 I started my own Podcast (QUEMedia Radio podcast) to expose the world to some of the more unrecognized DJs out there as well at to show case my own mixing talent. The show has been met with favorable reviews and has showcased such talents as DJ Dan Stringer from Canada & DJ G-Ron to name a few.
