This is the music of Ben Reeve. Many years of work and many different influences. All recorded at home and mixed by me. Comments always welcome.

"A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do."

I've split my music on here to try and make it a bit easier to navigate. On the front page here below the text you will find the FEATURED songs. These are the best I have to offer so far (pity ain't it!). Below that are three tabs leading to seperate albums. Firstly there is ACOUSTIC. This has any acoustic based songs not on the featured page. Then there's ELECTRIC. This has any of my more rocky songs in it (depends what mood I'm in!). Last of all there is the album titled LE VENS. This has any songs I have mixed for the Abingdon indie sensation that are Le Vens:

FEATURED

1)
ROUND HERE LIKE YOU

My favourite of all the songs I have ever written. Inspired by my girlfriend Lizzie, and only finished ten days before she died.

2)
WATCH THIS SPACE (ACOUSTIC)

Not the best recording, not the best performance, but some how the feel of this song just works. I played this one live and it just keeps on growing on me.

3)
BOOT'S ON THE OTHER FOOT

Well here it is, finally! Acoustic based, with lots of other elements. My favourite of all the songs I've written.

ACOUSTIC

1)
WHAT IF I'M WRONG?

The first song I ever completed. Quite simplistic recording techniques, but still makes me smile as being the first song I was ever really happy with.

2)
WALKING BLUES

Written about my then girlfriend going to uni in Liverpool. Need very well done, but has the best piano I've ever managed to play!

3)
BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY

Recorded for Harry before he became part of Le Vens. His party piece, and a really original version of a Verve classic.

4)
CAN'T STAND ME NOW

Cover of the famous Libertines song recorded with a couple of acoustic guitars. Has taken a while to get the final mix right, but I like how this one sounds now. Might be considered a little cheesy, but it's a completely new way of doing the song! Make sure you listen right the way to the end for the *ahem* legendary ending...

5)
BOOT'S ON THE OTHER FOOT (ACOUSTIC)

An acoustic version of one of my songs with Harry Nadin on Vocals. No Synths, backward guitars or dodgy coughs here!

ELECTRIC

1)
ALL OR NOTHING

Just one in here at the moment as I'm an acoustic man at heart. Again with a little help from Harry, it describes a night out with the lads. I also have the title tattoed on my arm.

LE VENS

1) CITY BEATS

The first song to come out of my sessions with Le Vens. A Harry Nadin solo effort, mixed to sound a bit psychadelic! Was written about a festival he was at, and is the perfect end of festival, acoustic tenty song. A lot of reverb on this one so be warned. This was how we meant it! I can imagine it as a secret song on an album....

Hey ben. Wicked music here. Really like it. Just thought I would let u know that I still can't access the tracks that I couldn't before even after they are streamed through media player. You never know...it could just be my computer being silly, but thought I would tell you! xx

Hey Ben, thats the first time this week Ivehad a chance to get on the comp properly and check out your music, "round here like you" left me with a lump in the throat dude, makes me look at what Ive got and cherish it all the more,. ]

As far as Mr Fretwell, Ive been into his songs for over two years now and whole heartedly agree with all you said. You belong up there with him for that song alone....10/10

Peace man.

First Thoughts.

When it goes from the lower pitched gruff singing into higher pitched singing at 1.43 it sounds terrible to be honest. That style of singing sounds instantly like self parody and jars against the gruffness of the previous vocal. I would start smoking 40 a day and work on getting your voice even gruffer, perhaps even get a job on a Norwegian fishing trawler, spend some time bull fighting in Andalucia, fight Danish lesbians at the weekend. You know what I'm saying? Go for a Lambchop vibe. I would be tempted to sprinkle a bit of piano over it aswell. Gently does it though. The strings at 3.10 need more presence and need to sound realer aswell, they need more swell from start to finish.

First Thoughts

I'm not sure about the organ intro, it's a little cliché. And then it just kinda disappears.
I agree that the different vocal part that comes in isn't the best, but it's much better when layered later on in the track, maybe do that in the first section? I'm not into soft acoustic stuff, myself, but it's well played, well mixed and you've a terrific voice.

All Or Nothing

it's a wee bit rigid sounding, maybe understandably if it's recorded piece by piece...

it's a pretty committed piece of singing so good on ya... i feel you should have everything except the vocals a bit more full on

maybe a bit more letting loose with the solo, it starts off good but becomes a wee bit well, tame...

the drums sound good, especially in the crescendo bits...

of course it made me laugh a bit, as all rock music does... Wink

good work
