My name is Dave Der I was born in Moose Jaw, Sask. on Jan, 7/1975. My DJ name is BOHDISAVA I came up with name because my nickname is BUDHA. I was looking through a book of Buddhist religion when I came across a definition BOHDISATVAS which is pronounced BOW-DEE-SAW-VAW this means, A being entitled to enter nirvana but, chooses to stay behind here on earth to help and enlighten others on the path to nirvana. The example of this is the Dalai Lama he keeps being reincarnated to teach his wisdom. So i changed the spelling, so not to offend anyone who is buddhist and made it my dj name. My first party was in Regina when I was in grade twelve in this dirty little basement there was about 150 people all dancing around to this crazy "techno" music I walked in and about twenty minutes later I was out of there. It definitely was not my scene I thought. The funny thing is that later I found out that Dr. J was the DJ I saw, he’s now is a good friend of mine. The first party where I actually enjoyed myself and fell in love with electronic music was a party called perpetual flux thrown by DJ Darjis who is now a good friend of mine as well. While I was there I watched in amazement, as this DJ spun records with so much energy and charisma he almost commanded the crowd to do his bidding with the music he was spinning, as I watched him I realised that this is what I want to do. I wanted to tell the friends that I came with, my life changing decision, along the way I asked someone "who is this DJ" they responded with a funny look then told me "this is DEKO-ZE" like I was supposed to know who that was or something. After that night I made getting to know Mike (DEKO-ZE) my number one goal. I figured if that if I knew him maybe he would teach me how to do what he does. After a bit of time Mike and I became good friends. I had no idea at he time that Mike was such a big name DJ. Once I figured it out, it was time to find a new teacher one that would actually have time to show me the ropes. That one teacher became my teachers. I learned how to spin records from a number of people; the first of such DJ’s was US. MARSHALL. Some of the other DJ’s I owe a lot of thanks to are FUDGE, FINK, DJ TOMAS, DARJIS, PAUL WHO, JUSTIN HALE and FUNKTRADER. I had four major goals to accomplish when I started to DJ. These goals were #1 to play with Mike (deko-ze). #2 to play with Czech. #3 to play WEMF (world electronic music festival). #4 to play Ibiza. The first goal I realized last year, not only did I play with Mike (Deko-ze) I mixed into his last track. How cool is that.! The second goal is going to happen next month I’m already booked to play in Whistler at Czech’s Sunday night residency. The other two goals will be reached I know it.!! I started off my DJ career playing disco house, then my focus turned to UK hard house for a short while. My hard house journey ended when I realised that the music had no soul. I then focused on the funk- eating , breathing & sleeping funk. I went back to the disco house until a little brown man opened my eyes to the world of breaks. I am now a multi- genre DJ. I play all kinds of house, breaks, and I am now dabbling in the world of drum & bass. I have released 8cd’s "The Funk", "Define Good", "Sex With A Side Of Funk", "Discotech", "Pissed Off", "Savage Breaks", "Funk on a Roll" & "The Mike J. Collection". And I plan to grow on that.
