Speaker Freak  

Speaker Freak aka Dj OttO, a San Diego native has always had a taste for the harder things in life. He obtained his first record player at the age of ten while sifting through his family’s belongings and dust covered disco vinyl. With his trusty record player he started mimicking the scratching effects he so often heard on the radio - and as most young kid’s are, he was easily amazed. As OttO grew, so did his love for music.

In the summer of 1995, at the age of fifteen, Speaker Freak quickly fell in love with the harder side of the scene and started buying all the Hard Trance and Techno vinyl he could find. In late 1995, Speaker Freak befriended a Denver based dj named Decepticon and latched himself to a local party crew called Stric-9 Productions,  who’s genres specialized in Acid Techno. He soon found himself playing at many of their party’s. Speaker Freak landed his first gig in late 1996 at a party held at an outdoor location notoriously known as the “Pig Farm”. In the years to follow Speaker Freak quickly built a reputation for his radiating energy and antics behind the decks. Often complimented on his top notch programming, smooth mixing skills, and uplifting track selection, he soon became recognized as one of San Diego’s favorite local dj’s.

On top of dj’ing, Speaker Freak is also very active in throwing events. In 1999 he started a crew called Speaker Freak Productionz whose sole mission was to expose Southern California to all genres of Hard Techno and NRG, which at that time not many people had experienced. Its first annual event “Dreamscape” became one of San Diego’s most loved and remembered outdoor events - showcasing Southern California’s most respected and sought after talent. The thank you party “Dedicated”, drew over a thousand smiling faces to a Pet Cemetary, and was one of the biggest underground outdoor events San Diego had ever seen. To this day he is still considered as one of San Diego’s most dedicated promoters.

 

Speaker Freak has landed numerous residencies including a spot on the late night radio show “Rewire” on San Diego’s “More” 98.9 FM. In the last 6 years, OttO has recorded countless live and studio mixes and has played alongside talented artists such as Deepsky, The Autobots, Skylab 2000, Josh The Funky 1, Jelo, Living Legends,  APX1, Jon Bishop, Donald Glaude, Koo Kane, Kimball Collins, Nicholas Bennisson, Brownie, Mars, Thee-o, Dj Mia, Richard Humpty Vission, Miss Lisa, Chelsea & Charlie Brown, Ron D. Core, Valerie and the Vibe Tribe, Paul-E, Darky and many more. Today, Speaker Freak is currently playing for dance floors far and wide.
