My love for electronic music began when I first saw the legend himself, Mr. Paul van dyk, a few years ago in Dubai. I wasn’t completely oblivious to dance music before that, I was just heavily into metal/rock/alternative at the time...and was also a drummer in a band. I basically had "no time" for other genres of music. I’d only listen to it if I was out clubbing or at a party, it was never consciously in my ipod play list.

To cut a long story short, I started going to house clubs more often and I soon found my ipod song rotation slowly leaning towards commercial house music like ministry of sound compilations and the like, which then eventually led to a near-complete take over with minimal/progessive/dirty electro house. Those baselines just blew me away every time! I think it was a lot easier for me to get into the gist of things as a DJ (beat-matching, and BPMs and all that) as I’ve been a drummer since I was 12, so let’s just say that I had my beats figured out!

Of course with all the new technology going around, its only a matter of time before a mixer would resemble a plane’s cockpit, you’d have to have a PhD in audio engineering or a mixer so advanced that...it DJs automatically, no human involvement necessary. Or maybe not. But you never know. Until then, i think we're safe.

The kind of house (progressive and/or electro...and anything that sounds good really) I like to play has to have some melody. I know, in essence, all music has some sort of melody, but I'm talking about those house tunes that feel like a 10-minute loop with a monotonous sample with the occasional build up and break down. Now I don’t want to denounce any sub-genre of house music (”you don’t understand, if your high on drugs...this music is amazing!”) and it’s all very subjective, but I personally can’t stand music like that. I don’t care if the sound is underground or commercial, as long as it evokes some sort of emotion, (angry tunes, cheerful tunes, feel-good tunes, tunes that make you remember an experience or a certain place, time or person....and everything in between)....basically music with some groove and more importantly, some soul! =)
