It all started with my parents educating me in the ways of classic rock as a child. Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Queen, Rush, ACDC, The Eagles, Journey, .38 Special, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Deep Purple, The Doors, Def Leppard, some Moody Blues, Boston, Cream, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, etc etc.
After getting out of my "all new music sucks and only the classics should be listened to phase" early on in high school, I started getting into the heavier styles of rock n' roll, and went through my Metal phase... Metallica, Megadeath, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Black Sabbath, System of a Down, Primus, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, Dream Theater, Nightwish, Tool, Slayer, even getting into Linkin Park (guilty). I was into anything that was heavy and distorted.
My musical taste started to mature and develop, about halfway through high school I found myself waste deep in the hardcore scene, checking out awesome experimental bands such as The Mars Volta, The Fall of Troy, At The Drive In, Idiot Pilot, A lot of local Seattle area bands, etc. (too hazy of a time period for me to recall a lot of them, maybe I'll develop this part when it all comes flooding back :])
And then there was the fateful trip to Vancouver BC in 2003 or 2004. Me and a few buddies were rummaging about in the (now closed) Virgin Records megastore in downtown Vancouver. I go through the bargain bin and find a two disc set called Virgin Records Future Trance 2003 somewhere in the middle for 6 or 7 Canadian (which at the time was like 4 or 5 bucks). I say to myself, "holy shit 4 dollars for 32 tracks of music! I'm in!"
I had been lightly exposed to electronic music before, and knew that for the price I of course couldn't be let down.
Three days later my friends were threatening physical violence if I even try to put Future Trance in the CD player as I have been playing it non-stop all weekend, I couldn't get enough.
From that point on, I became more and more obsessed with all things electronic. Moving from Trance to House to Electronica to the Harder styles of dance music (including but not limited to Hardstyle, Hard House, Hardcore, Gabber). I enjoy listening to just about all of it, though my tendency is towards anything with a harder beat. I am also getting more into Drum N Bass, the more I listen to it.
