The Miami WMC Special for Radio Danz
Description:
An exclusive Epicentre mixset to be broadcast in a Europe-friendly timeslot of 8pm on Saturday 29th March on Miami music station RADIO DANZ (http://www.radiodanz.com/index.php) to coincide with the MIAMI WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE. As well as some hand-picked cuts of the finest in Electro House, this new mixset includes a series of exclusive Epicentre remixes. Amongst these is a collaboration with Radio Danz DJ and Producer JOEL NORTH on a remix for the indie band Lovespirals, a few exclusives from UK DJ Phil Urry of the Shine Boys, and a world premiere of an Epicentre remix of a track by Everything But The Girl. If this isn't enough, the mix also kicks off with the first in the series of GOLDEN TICKET remixes - which rework some of the classic dance tracks from the last 15 years of anthems.

I'd forgotten all about this.
I know England (or any of the Home Nations) aren't going to Euro 2008, but football's kharma is all kicked out this year, with an all-English Champions League Final, a season of FA Cup shocks and who'd ever think we'd see Hull City grace the Premiership after being in the 4th tier of English Football just 4 years ago, eh? Anyways, in the wake of the regional euphoria surrounding Deano's right foot, I dug this out and thought you might be interested in it.
This is a collage of my favourite footy-related tracks, interlaced with famous samples of commentary and assorted crowd chants. Some tracks you'll already have (but not like this), some I've remixed a bit and some are obscure ones you've never heard of before but fit the bill. A lot of work went into this.

Had a great time putting this together for the Miami-based station Radio Danz (http://www.radiodanz.com/index.html). Joel North is a top guy.
A few of the tracks I heard Joel drop on Radio Danz, some others are up and coming tunes from local heroes who deserve a plug. Very upfront electro house, with a lot of samples, acappellas, synths and plugins added to spice up the proceedings and ensure the roof is blown off. Expect the unexpected.

digital tapestry
Description:
My Magnus Opus of Mixsets.
There is a LONG story behind this mix, but suffice to say if I told you I tried to put this together back in 1998 using a 4-track mixer on ferric tape, with a guitar pedal hooked up to my decks to manually add the filters and sweeps, you'll understand there's some heritage behind it. Several months later I bought a minidisc player and suddenly I had digital quality sound. I became quite dapper in chopping and splicing whole segments, as well as adding layers to tracks like never before. The mix therefore acquired a name – 'Digital Tapestry' – and it's been a monkey on my back ever since.
Ever the perfectionist, I never quite got round to finishing it. Years went by and I acquired hardware, software, plugins and sequencers, but life got in the way and I chose to forget about it. The dust gathered (not that it does on digital recordings obviously), and only in the light of the current fad in retro mixes did I think finally think stuff it and put the pieces together.
Some random pieces of info to note is the second ever Epicentre track 'debuts' here – 'Nakata'. The first Epicentre remix, Mardrae's 'Realign', is also included, designed to mix seamlessly into trance guru BT's legendary track 'Blue Skies' with Tori Amos (a tune which I still regard as having the best crescendo of madness into the breakdown and back again).
Some of this mix is very for the club (skip to 20 minutes in if that's your thing), whereas other tracks are best described as belonging in an Oakenfold Essential Mix (some actually were), crossing genres and music styles more suited to a long drive, hot bath or to kick boots back to. Film scores, trance, orchestral bits, ambient tracks, sampled speech from films, drum n bass - even a stop-off for an experimental rock/dance fusion moment with an unreleased demo by BT intended for his album ESCM that never saw the light of day. If you think of it as ten years of ideas, you'll get the picture.
Not without coincidence, near the end we finish things with a memorable track by Hybrid called 'Finished Symphony', followed by probably the most profound sample I'll ever use in the shape of Bill Hicks' 'just a ride' speech. The only hint of modern mixing is the length – this would've originally been recorded over two tapes, then two CDs, now all on one long mix (bless the invention of the mp3 player). Times change.
I also need to pay some respect to my mate Ronny for whom I initially kept trying to put this together (“next month, I promise”), and secondly to Simon, who whom his devotion to all things 1997 and Depeche Mode remixes after all these years finally gave me the kick up the arse to finish this monster off. I hope you like it, but if it ain't your bag I've finally got this monkey off my back and that's enough for me.

The 2k7 Mix - Autumn/Winter
Description:
Well, into 2008 now. I've put together over 100 minutes of quality tunes, which I've sliced, diced and remixed over the last six months. Most of the tracks on here have been modified a bit to the normal cuts, so see if you can spot the difference.
2007 was definitely the year of 'Retro Electro' - contemparary remixes of classic tunes - which continues where the first mix left off really, but with things getting much more electro with this mixset.
There's more original Epicentre content, as well as an exclusive remix of Best of You by the Foo Fighters and one by Imogen Heap to finish things off. There are also a few acappellas thrown in and some fun with samples and plugins along the way.

Well, what can I say? It's been a heck of a year in every sense, both good and bad. The music thing has really taken off this year, with me spending more time in the studio and in the clubs than I ever have. Anyways, as is customary for me, here's my end of year mixset. It's actually only part one (the majority was recorded back in June), as I've had so many tunes to get through. Things start proper with a remix from me and are all things house before going a bit trancey towards the end, finishing with a fantastic tune by Hybrid and John Graham/Quivver.

Been browsing through this website for the last 2 weeks and I must say although I've found a few nice mixes your 2K6 mix is my fav so far. Will give the next 2 a listen after and hoping for more goodies. Is 2K7 on the horizon?? Big fan, keep up the good work. |
