Like FM Radio in the 70s: folk, country, blues, acoustic rock, funk and r & b rolled up into a single cohesive statement on American music. John has lived in Michigan, Ohio, Los Angeles, Boston, Memphis, Seattle, New Orleans and post-Katrina Natchitoches, and has been playing, singing and writing for the last 33 years, working with such bands and artists as The Blue Wave Band, Faith Assembly, The Things (Moondogs), Aaron Flinn, The Six Million Dollar Band, Jean Jacquette and the Blue Threads, Poorboy Station, Jeff Rachall and Hardrick Rivers, as well as performing and recording solo. Two years at Berklee College of Music brought him into contact with folks who are now playing with Jack Johnson, Paul McCartney and others. Undertown is John's latest solo project: new songs and new post-Katrina instruments (acoustic and electric guitars, bass, percussion, dobro, mandolin, fiddle and lap steel) and recording studio.

Stay
Description:
I wrote the lyrics for this song in 2000, during an extended submersion in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young music. At the time, I recorded a version that started slow and then built into a completely different groove at the end, much like Stephen's "Carry On". Well, seven years and a hurricane later, that version no longer exists --- and it was a bit over-the-top and long, anyway. Strangely enough, though, the song is no longer about what I thought it was to begin with. It now sounds a lot like a post-Hurricane survivor song, although it was five years prescient to that event. Some kinds of loss, discouragement and soul damage, however, are universal and can be obtained through your own kind of tragedy.

Isn't That Something
Description:
For my birthday, I recorded a version of my song "Isn't That Something". It's a throw-back, I think, to my Elvis Costello/Bob Dylan effective protest song period. Maybe. I love the bass line, probably because it was fun to play - it grooves :) More information, including the lyrics, can be found on my website: Peace out.
