THE LOW DOWN

I find it to be false and a little strange to write this in third person so this will be a true auto-biography.  Besides, I'm not nearly established enough to have someone write on my behalf.  I started dj'ing in 98 officially. However, my interest in and love for music extends far beyond.  Virtually anywhere I've detected a good guitar lick, catchy hook, or deep ambience has been captivating since I can remember.  My father was once a sound man for a couple of bands and the era of classic rock has resonated in my ears all of my life.   My mother made several mix tapes for her friends, packed full with the latest talent and obscure artists. When I was much shorter and more energetic, I vividly recall listening to Neil Young live and feeling the music reach out to me in the form of full body chills. Clearly the composition was aligned in perfect and distinct order, enough to physically affect my naive mind.  I knew then and every time since, that I should get involved with music.  I  was taught music theory, voice and the trombone while in school. I dabbled in the piano and guitar on the side.  As the years went on, I continued to notice the rugged and dreamy sounds the synthesizer would produce in many different songs.  I really did not know where this was coming from but I knew I liked it.

To move things along a bit, I was first introduced to electronic elements from sources on the radio  (Pink-Floyd, Depeche Mode, The Police, Moby, Prodigy etc...).  In 96, a friend took me to an underground event featuring all dance music.  I was immediately struck with the raw intensity and loved it. I then witnessed Sasha and Digweed in 98.  It was immediately clear which direction I wanted to pursue music.  I took it seriously, so much so that I saved and labored for 1200mk2's rather than other inferior and cheaper versions of decks.  I knew this was not a fad for me.

Since then, I have played in clubs stretching from Colorado/Wyoming all the way to Russia.  I've enjoyed every minute and regretted none of it.  I then wanted to expand and dip into the world of production/composing.  I started out with a free version of Jeskola Buzz and pretty much winged it.  I thought an envelope was something you sent in the mail.  Just totally lost with all of the technical jargon.  Slowly, I discovered the basics through good old fashioned trial and error.  At the time, I was pursuing an electrical engineering degree.  Therefore, I was having difficulty finding the time to learn about production.  Recently, I've decided to make a more concerted effort to finish what I had started.  I have discovered more tricks of the trade and really great equipment.  Hence,  I am about to start releasing material of my own for the first time.  Stay tuned.  If you have had the stamina to read through all of this babbling, hopefully you won't mind checking back periodically to listen to my up-coming tracks.  These will be released on my digital label JAYZAMP3.
