2006 has definitely been the best year for Drum n Bass… well, at least for Zach Brown, aka DJ Retox.

2005 ended with Retox securing a residency with one of San Francisco’s consistently best Drum n Bass monthlies – Still Doin’ It at Club Anu.  With a regular gig and respected affiliation following his billing, Retox accumulated more and more bookings and further displayed his ability to rock a dancefloor.

Zach’s relative success in the feeding frenzy that can often describe Bay Area drum n bass was put to the ultimate test in July.  In the month henceforth known as “Hyphy Julyphy,” Retox put his fledgling reputation on the line by throwing not one, but TWO drum n bass events in July.  With the help from Soulstream, Zach hosted V Records’ Artificial Intelligence with Still Doin’ It at San Francisco’s Bar of Contemporary Art.  Three weeks later, Retox teamed up with Reflex to throw one of the biggest parties of the summer: Bassism presents Cyantific (Hospital UK) and Mathematics (Social Studies NYC).  The Cyantific and Mathematics event was such a collaborative success that Zach parted ways with Still Doin’ It and accepted the invitation to join Reflex - one of the largest and most respected crews in the Bay Area.

After proving himself a capable promoter, Zach returned to focus on dj’ing and honing his technical and programming skills.  He was called upon by Method One (Levitated SF) to record a mix especially for his Bassdrive radio show, “Vinyl and Circuitry.”  Retox liked the mix, and more importantly the feedback from the listeners, so much that he distributed the mp3 and cut CD’s titling the mix “Get Hyphy or Die Tryin’.”  This mix shows Retox comfortable in is his element – funky, upfront, and vibin’ specifically for the dancefloor.

At the dawn of 2007, Retox can look back on a very successful 2006; he’s shared bills with big hitters such as Marcus Intalex, Souls of Mischief, Danny the Wildchild, Cyantific, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Calibre & DRS, Big Bud, Hive, Echo, Rohan, & Cenobites.  No stranger to local support, Zach has had the honor of being asked to play at Phuturo, Compression, Blend, Drop Heavy, Love Fest 2006, and Futurebreaks FM throughout 2006 and into 2007.
